Caux Collective Recommends: Eugenia Loli
Upon viewing these fantastic abstract collages, for the first time, you’d be forgiven for confusing the experience with something found only in the depths of drug-experimentation or inter-dimensional travel. I can’t say I’m too experienced in either scenario, but it’s not easy to describe these mind-bending images without feeling the need to touch upon something achieved only when passing beyond our typical, conscious, existentialist state.
California-based, Filmmaker and Collage Artist, Eugenia Loli, who’s stunning pieces we see here, states on her website, “It’s important for me to “say” something with my artwork, so for the vast majority of my work there’s a meaning behind them. I usually do this via presenting a “narrative” scene in my collages, like there’s something bigger going on than what’s merely depicted.” This determined desire to create a meaningful, artistic creation, as opposed to something that is exclusively aesthetic, without meaning, certainly appeals to me.
The beautifully complex debut collage, in this photoset, is named ‘Three Minutes To Nirvana’ a piece which Loli describes as representing the journey humanity must take towards ascending into a higher state of being. This collage, I feel, perfectly represents Loli’s work in its entirety. It showcases the inspired thought-process and natural complexity that Loli’s techniques warrant, as well as the meaningful, multi-faceted subject matter.
If you would like to read the full description of these piece, or find more of Eugenia Loli’s artwork, head over to her Cargo Collective profile where you can find many more of her pieces, as well as links to Loli’s vast online presence including her Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr and many more.
